Research Paper Submissions
For over twenty years, the Gnovis Journal has been regularly publishing leading-edge graduate student scholarship on the interrelated nature of emerging technologies, popular culture, new media, politics, and more. We welcome submissions from current graduate students (both Masters and PhD) studying at any accredited institution both in the U.S. and internationally.
Scope and Subject Areas
We are looking for papers that engage with, as well as extend beyond, one or more of the topics listed below. Submissions are not required to engage with all three areas of communication, culture, and technology concurrently, but can explore intersections between any two of the three. If you have questions about how to ensure your paper aligns to these requirements, please contact gnovis@georgetown.edu.
Papers may address a wide range of subjects, including but not limited to:
- Science and technology studies
- Traditional and new media studies
- Literary/film analysis
- Cultural criticism
- Cultural identity and politics
- Politics and new media/emerging technologies
- Art and new media/emerging technologies
- Mediated communication and digital representation
- Race/class/sexuality/gender and new media/emerging technologies
- Design thinking and UX
- Linguistics and new media/emerging technologies
Submission Guidelines
How to Submit
Please submit articles via email attachment to gnovis@georgetown.edu by January 9, 2026, at 11:59 pm EST.
- Email Body: Please include your name, contact information, and affiliation including school/program name.
- Attachment: The attachment should be a MS Word document with all personal identifying information removed to facilitate the blind peer review process.
Format & Length Requirements
- File format: MS Word document (.doc, .docx).
- Length: Approximately 3,000–8,000 words in length (generally 10–25 double-spaced pages), excluding citations.
- Abstract: All submissions must include an abstract of no more than 250 words summarizing the project and conclusions.
- Formatting: Times New Roman, 12 point font, and double-spaced.
- Citations: Submissions must employ the author-date APA Style format and must have in-text parenthetical citations (author, date, pg. number) with an alphabetical end bibliography.
- IRB Approval: Research on human subjects (including case studies and hypothesis testing) may require IRB approval before publication. For information, please visit Georgetown University IRB Guidelines.
Review and Publication Details
- Editorial Review: Submitted papers are subject to an initial round of review by the editorial board.
- Peer Review: Papers accepted by the editorial committee will be subject to a blind peer review process (visit here if you are interested in being a peer reviewer).
- Revision: Writers whose papers are accepted will be required to revise their manuscripts based on the comments and requests provided by both the editorial board and the peer reviewers.
- Publication: Articles will published in the Gnovis Journal and permanently archived through Georgetown library’s Digital Georgetown collection.
- Author Invitation: Published authors will be potentially invited to present their research to students, faculty, and other authors at a conference at Georgetown University.

For those interested in submitting to gnovis who do not have a full-length journal submission, please note that gnovis also accepts scholarly blog posts on an ongoing basis.
